Aim and activities

The AdriaClimRisk project aims to define and quantify climate hazards and risks on land, at sea, and in the Adriatic coastal zone, and to propose adaptation measures in line with the strategic and operational documents of the coastal counties. To this end, the latest high-resolution climate projections of the atmosphere and the sea for the Adriatic region will be analyzed, targeted experiments will be conducted to examine the resilience of specific segments of terrestrial ecosystems and crops to climate change, and the vulnerability of tourism as well as the potential of sustainable energy sources under future climate conditions will be assessed. The project also includes strengthening research capacities in climate science, educating students and early-career researchers, and disseminating results to stakeholders, including those from coastal and near-coastal cities and municipalities, as well as to the general public.

The project is implemented through 14 activities:

Activity 1: Preparatory activities
Activity 2: Analysis of climate simulations and projections of the atmosphere in the Adriatic region
Activity 3: Analysis of climate simulations and projections of Adriatic oceanographic properties
Activity 4: Mitigation of heat stress in tomato cultivation (Solanum lycopersicum) using grafting techniques
Activity 5: Analysis of the effects of climate change on traditional grapevine varieties in a collection vineyard
Activity 6: Melatonin in mitigating drought effects in olive: from physiology to gene expression
Activity 7: Assessment of the influence of environmental variables on olive phenology in the present and future climate
Activity 8: Increasing the adaptability of seedlings for reforestation of the Adriatic coastal area under climate change conditions
Activity 9: Sustainability and analysis of long-term oceanic and atmospheric measurements in the Adriatic region
Activity 10: Analysis of the impacts of climate change on coastal tourism
Activity 11: Analysis of the potential of sustainable energy sources in a future climate
Activity 12: Dissemination of project results to stakeholders, organization of workshops, and strategic planning
Activity 13: Project management
Activity 14: Promotion and visibility
